A message from David:
Lifeguarding is an amazing responsibility to keep other people safe and it teaches so many vital life skills. The first aid skills and emergency response skills developed by being a lifeguard will serve individuals and their communities across their life. It is also important to remember lifeguards can never guarantee safety; drowning is the number one cause of death for children ages 1 - 5. Lifegaurding classes teach particpants the basic skills required to be a lifeguard. I will not pass any participant that does not develop the necessary skills to safely serve as a lifeguard; it is not fair to them to pass them on to an aquatics facility if they do not possess the necessary basic skills. It is then up their future aquatics manager to orient them to the facilty and to offer inservice sessions to allos a new lifegarud to contimnue to develop their skills and knowledge. I take this responsibility very seriously.
